This 1964 Aston Martin DB5 is one of 123 convertibles built during the DB5 model’s two years of production and is among 39 open-roof examples configured in left-hand drive. Chassis 1510/L left the factory in June 1964 for delivery in the US, where it is said to have later spent several years in storage in a barn. The car reportedly underwent a refurbishment in 2010 by Carrozzeria AutoSport/Bacchelli & Villa in Italy that included a repaint in black with a color-matched top and leather interior upholstery before joining a Belgian collection. In 2012, it was purchased by its current owner and moved to France, where it was featured as part of a cover story in British Motors magazine in 2017. Subsequent work included a 2019 overhaul of the DOHC inline-six to a displacement of 4.2 liters. Additional features include triple SU carburetors, a ZF five-speed manual transmission, a limited-slip differential, servo-assisted four-wheel disc brakes, 15” chrome wire wheels, and a Motorola radio. This DB5 convertible is now offered on dealer consignment in Paris, France, with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, photos from the refurbishment, invoices from current ownership, and French registration that lists a first registration date of 1965.

Launched in September 1963 as a higher-powered successor to the DB4, the DB5 inherited the Carrozzeria Touring-styled design of the DB4’s Series V variant. Superleggera construction incorporating aluminum body panels over a steel framework was also carried over from the DB4. Like its predecessor, the DB5 was available in both coupe and convertible configurations with shared styling elements including faired-in headlights, triple-stacked taillights, a low-profile hood scoop, and a seven-bar grille.
Originally finished in Platinum, the body was repainted in its current shade of black during a refurbishment performed around 2010 by Carrozzeria AutoSport in Bastiglia, Italy, which also included the installation of a black convertible top. A plaque affixed inside the driver-side door jamb notes “Restauro n. 13” by Carrozzeria AutoSport Bachelli & Villa in 2010. Additional features include a driver-side mirror, a fender-mounted antenna, and a black leather top boot.
Chrome wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are wrapped in 185HR15 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires that were mounted in 2018. Stopping is handled by servo-assisted disc brakes all around.
The cabin was re-trimmed during the refurbishment under previous ownership and features black leather over 2+2 seating with matching upholstery over the door panels and dashboard. Additional features include color-matched carpeting, black-painted door caps, front shoulder belts, a lockable glovebox, power windows, and a Motorola push-button radio.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation including a 300-km/h speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, a clock, and gauges monitoring fuel level, coolant temperature, amperage, oil pressure, and oil temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 53k kilometers (~33k miles). The speedometer cable was repaired in 2019, and the tachometer was rebuilt in 2020.

RNM. No surprise here! The (original) black 1964 DB5 Volante that sold here last month brought $1,350,000. Of course it had a better (and original) interior colour (terracotta) and superior presentation, but the gap here is surprising.

Truly a drool-worthy car. Not a fan of the rather somber all-black livery (according to the Heritage Certificate, it was originally platinum, not white). That subtle light metallic over red interior would be stunning, but to each their own.
I often chuckle at sellers on here and other sites who attempt to cover up their car's license plate (often inadvertently allowing a few uncovered plates to slip through as in this example, undermining the whole effort). What's silly about that exercise is, do they also cover the plates while on the road, or in a carpark, where all the public can see them? And revealing the more important VIN is potentially more critical (if it were in any degree) than a changeable plate. Pointless indeed.
That said, this is a car that evokes lust in the Castrol-pumping heart of any true petrolhead, myself included. While well above my paygrade, I fantasize about selling almost everything I own to purchase such a sublime voiturette.

It is a shame that such a quasi-perfect restoration is spoiled by front bumpers that are installed at an angle instead of dead horizontal. It is one of those things that once you see it, you can’t unsee it!!!

Yes, this DB5 was indeed restored — the body was fully stripped, and the restoration was carried out to Bacchelli & Villa standards, under the supervision of a well-regarded workshop in France. As for the body panels, we don't currently have any precise information on whether they were replaced.
Today, the result speaks for itself: the underbody, sills, body panels, interior, and exterior are all in absolutely superb condition. There's no sign of galvanic corrosion between the metals — no bubbling, no staining on either side — this was checked thoroughly, including inside the door jambs, and everything is spotless.

Good question. There can be a corrosive galvanic reaction between the Superleggera touch points between the steel frame and aluminum parts like body panels. Usually, just felt pads keep the two metals apart. AM DB car restoration 101. GLWTA!

Absolutely beautiful DB5 Convertible. Given the value and rarity of this car, I have one question regarding the 2010 restoration that I think would be very important for a prospective buyer:
During the Bacchelli & Villa restoration, was the original Superleggera steel framework fully exposed and inspected, and were any sections of the steel structure, sills, outriggers, or aluminum body panels replaced?
If so, are there detailed restoration photographs or records showing exactly which portions of the original structure and bodywork were retained?

My brother owned a white with red interior DB5 convertible in 1971-72; he bought it in Philadelphia, and sold it on Long Island NY. Fond memories of putting 2 surfboards in the front passenger seat and heading for Gilgo Beach. Anyone know if AM exported to the US more than 1 car in the white on red color scheme?

The slight evolution from 4.0 to 4.2 comes from an engine rebore, carried out to improve driveability and performance. This is regularly done on DB4, DB5, and DB6 models. The original block was retained, so the car's authenticity remains fully intact.
Regarding the colour: the original configuration — white with a burgundy interior — was less appealing. It was therefore decided to re-trim in Triple Black as part of a restoration carried out to a very high standard.

Seeing this DB5 reminds me of the opportunity I passed on in 1978 to buy a DB5 coupe in London. It was truly a running project car (multiple dents, much of the car in primer, missing a headlamp, and who knows what else). The seller wanted 5,000 Pounds Sterling, which was more than I could afford at the time (it cost more than a year at Yale back then). Should have figured out a way to purchase it, although I had no money for a restoration. Back then, I was driving an Opel. This DB5 is quite beautiful and would be absolutely delightful to drive through Europe. Hope whoever has the honor of winning this auction treasures the car and serves as a good steward of a truly iconic car of the 1960s. GLWTA!
