Smiths instrumentation ahead of the Moto-Lita wood-rimmed steering wheel consists of a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 62k miles, approximately 100 of which were added under current ownership.

@camohatmike. I’m probably more sad to be letting her go. I suspect once I get settled in my new place I’ll be hoping @artincapo will be letting her go. MGs don’t get the credit they deserve with looks, driving experience, and mechanics.

@planner1013. Thanks for the question and interest. The top folds down behind the seats, and the boot cover snaps over it when it’s stowed. Does this answer your question?

Thanks for the additional photos. It looks like you've got the top placed OVER the boot, so I'm trying to determine if that's the way it's designed, or if the top fits UNDER the boot when snapped into place, which is the common scenario.

@earlspoint. Thanks for sharing. My first MGB was in the 1980s, so I can certainly understand your appreciation for them. I have a feeling I’ll be looking for another one someday, but finding one quite like her may not be easy.

@planner1013. Thanks for your question. I’d be happy to take additional photos of the top. I’ve never had any issues with it. Is there a particular angle or area you’d like to see—such as the fit at the windshield, side windows, rear window, or how it looks fully latched? Just let me know, and I’ll post the photos as soon as I can.

Thanks to everyone who has been following the auction, and for all of the questions and bidding.

I wanted to share a little additional information. At the end of May, I had the car serviced at British European Auto in Los Angeles. The service included an oil change, coolant service, and new spark plugs.

I’m happy to provide any additional photos, videos, or information that would be helpful as the auction continues.

There is a working AC that blows through two center blowers and then one on the passenger and driver side each. I would not put it at the same level of new cars AC - it’s on or off but makes a difference. I uploaded a couple of videos. The top was down on both. I did one video turning it on at idle and one at a higher speed- maybe about 60mph to help show no impact on speed and acceleration.

Jun 26, 2026 · 19:41
@Racejh - Indeed. @Y2K911 misunderstood my earlier comment (likely because it was unclear). The car certainly has A/C, which would have been a dealer-installed aftermarket unit. My BGT came with this, too. The original compressor would have been a York piston unit, and it's huge, heavy, and draws a fair amount of power. An upgrade to a rotary Sanden unit would be worthwhile, for sure.

As for the interaction with the air/smog pump, the compressor mounts to the engine in the same location as the alternator normally would, so the alternator is mounted higher and farther out than the factory location to accommodate the compressor, as can be seen in the photos. Perhaps this setup explains why the air pump is present, despite the fact that it is not connected?

@Tom_R. @Y2K911 Pics 111, 112, 113, and 114 all show what appears to be an AC condenser in front of the radiator.
Pic 113 shows an AC compressor mounted under the alternator. The blue charging port cap is clearly visible.

I believe @Tom_R addressed the AC question by pointing out that what looks like an AC compressor is a smog pump. Or am missing something? 110 degrees in my part of Riverside County right now, AC on an MGB would be nice albeit with a huge drop in power.

Thanks for the smog details Tom.

This is a lovely example and apart from not having the overdrive, a simple installation of one can be found, it is a perfect driver example. It is particularly nice to see a tidy original engine bay. I do note that there appears to be some variation in the colour apparent in the driver's door (repair? repaint?), but other than that this is a very complete example and should draw a decent price on here for someone who is interested in a turn-key example.

I find the fact that it has a/c interesting given these come equipped with natural "360 degree a/c" but I would guess that sitting in the blistering heat in California traffic would be brutal and would definitely require an electric fan with a manual switch to keep it from overheating in traffic. All in all a nice example that I hope does well on the site. GLWTA.

@Y2K911 - A 1972 would have PCV in the form of a hose connected to the carb throats (not a PCV valve). It would also have a Charcoal canister located over the passenger's feet, and an air pump and associated plumbing (Filter, gulp valve, etc).

Photo #112 shows all of these items as being present, except that the plumbing and associated bits for the air pump have been removed (the pump is still there, though). It wouldn't be terribly difficult to remove the air pump or source and reinstall all of the original plumbing if so desired.

@Seller - The metal line that connects the vents for the fuel bowls of the carbs to the charcoal canister is mis-routed. It's currently hanging over the air filter in the front, but ought to be rotated towards the engine to get it out of the way. This doesn't affect function, it's just visually odd, and could potentially foul the underside of the hood.

@ganjoka. Spot on. From Az. The DMV inspected the car - odometer, VIN, mechanics no emissions test. Clean registration
Y2K911
Jun 25, 2026 · 16:19
@ganjoka, since this car is pre-1975, no emissions testing is required in CA The seller must have brought the car in from another state in 2022, the DMV only checks to make sure the VIN on the car matches the title.

MGB experts, what smog equipment would a 72 have? PCV valve?
1974_KY_CA (The Seller)
Jun 25, 2026 · 16:14
@ganjoka. Yes. It was inspected by the CA dmv and cleared. It’s been registered in CA since 2022. I have American Collectors insurance. I think it is about $200 a year (but I’m on the older side;) )

"@1974_KY_CA ~ Any explanation as to why the top is so ill-fitting?"
It appears from photo 106 that the front bow might not be in the correct, more rearward, position, thus tightening the top it's final bit.
