Japanese-Market 2004 Mercedes-Benz G500 Grand Edition
Presentation
Created to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the civilian Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the G500 Grand Edition combined the W463’s legendary hand-built off-road capability with exclusive trim details, unique badging, and enhanced luxury appointments, making it one of the most distinctive special-edition G-Wagens of its era. This 2004 Mercedes-Benz G500 Grand Edition was imported from Japan by the current owner in September 2023 and is finished in Obsidian Black Metallic (197) over a Black leather interior. Powered by a 5.0-liter V8 paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission, a dual-range transfer case, and locking front, center, and rear differentials, this special-edition G-Wagen has been extensively serviced and tastefully upgraded during current ownership. Equipment includes heated front and rear seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, COMAND infotainment, a Harman Kardon sound system, Bilstein suspension components, Thor coil springs, 18” alloy wheels, and Falken Wildpeak all-terrain tires. Showing approximately 206k kilometers (128k miles) on the odometer, this G500 Grand Edition is now being offered for auction in Canada.
Finished in Obsidian Black Metallic, the bodywork showcases the G-Class’s signature utilitarian styling, including exposed door hinges, flat body panels, flared fenders, and running boards. Additional equipment includes rear parking sensors, a power sunroof, headlamp washers, fog lights, and Grand Edition badging. A swing-out rear cargo door houses a factory-mounted full-size spare tire carrier, while factory roof rack crossbars accompany the sale and were removed for the recent photo shoot. The truck rides on factory 18” five-spoke alloy wheels mounted with Falken Wildpeak AT3W tires measuring 275/70R18 installed in September 2023. The seller notes touched-up rock chips on the front grille, hood, and windshield surround.
The cabin is upholstered in Black leather and features heated and power-adjustable front seats along with a heated rear bench seat. A serialized Grand Edition plaque remains mounted on the center console, distinguishing this example from a standard G500. Interior appointments include illuminated door sills, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, burl wood trim, COMAND infotainment with CD stereo, a Harman Kardon premium sound system, and a heated leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel. The seller adds that the leather upholstery, door panels, and carpeting remain in excellent condition overall, although some minor sagging is noted on the headliner.
Power comes from a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter M113 V8 factory-rated at 292 HP and 336 lb-ft of torque, driving all four wheels through a 5-speed automatic transmission, a dual-range transfer case, and electronically locking front, center, and rear differentials. Suspension upgrades include Bilstein B8 5160 dampers, Thor front and rear coil springs, and 35mm H&R wheel spacers, contributing to an approximately 2” lift and a more aggressive stance. Since importation to Canada in 2023, the seller states the truck has additionally undergone extensive servicing including replacement of the left and right CV joints, front axle seals, rear brake pads, driver-side rear brake caliper, serpentine belt system components, water pump, thermostat, engine temperature sensor, tie rods, drag link ends, ignition cables, spark plugs, accelerator pedal sensor, power steering reservoir, breather hoses, and front struts, along with a brake fluid flush. Additional maintenance included resealing the valve covers, oil filter housing, oil cooler, and breather chamber, while all three locking differentials were reportedly tested and confirmed operational.
This sale will include roof rack crossbars, owner’s manuals, a spare tire, and a Canadian registration.
The seller would like you to know: “This was to be a forever car, but things have changed, and the owner now requires a smaller vehicle because of parking conditions.”
