27k-Mile 1999 Land Rover Range Rover 4.6 HSE Callaway
Presentation
One of 220 Callaway-specification Range Rovers commissioned by Land Rover North America for 1999, this 4.6 HSE is number 078 of the series and pairs Callaway's engine and chassis upgrades with the P38 Range Rover's luxury and off-road capability. Finished in Niagara Metallic over Ash Black leather, it is powered by a Callaway-tuned 4.6-liter Rover V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Acquired by the current owner in 2021, the second of two Land Rover collectors to own it, the truck has since benefited from more than $11k in service in 2023 and 2024. Showing approximately 27k miles on the odometer, this Callaway is now being offered for auction in Rhode Island.
Finished in Niagara Metallic, this Callaway features an edition-specific body-color front grille, bumper covers, and mirror caps along with dual exhaust outlets. Additional equipment includes a sunroof, tinted windows, headlight and taillight guards, a receiver hitch, and silver-finished 18" Hurricane alloy wheels. The wheels are mounted with 255/55 Cooper Discoverer H/T Plus tires carrying 2016 date codes. The truck was recently detailed. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin is upholstered in Ash Black leather with wood trim and features heated, power-adjustable front seats with driver-position memory, dual-zone automatic climate control, a cassette stereo, and a center console with storage. A numbered plaque identifies the truck as number 078 of the series, and the shift knob is embossed with a Callaway logo.
The 4.6-liter Rover V8 was rated at 240 HP and 285 lb-ft of torque in Callaway specification, sending power to all four wheels through a 4-speed automatic transmission and an electronically controlled dual-range transfer case. The Callaway upgrades included a raised compression ratio, a carbon-fiber intake tube, a freer-flowing exhaust, and revised transfer-case ratios, improving 0-60 mph acceleration to a claimed 8.6 seconds. The truck rides on an air suspension with Bilstein shocks and is fitted with four-wheel disc brakes. The seller notes that the air suspension loses air over the course of a couple of days but returns to normal once the vehicle is started, and reports more than $11k in service records from 2023 and 2024.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, a car cover, and a Vermont title in the owner's name, carrying a "Classic" brand.
The seller would like you to know: “The car has received careful care since new.”

So hard to find them with the air suspension still in them. I have 3 rovers all with air - Bags are not a big deal and this is a collectible - keep it stock for better long term value.

Beautiful / special one.
If one were to fix the air suspension system fully, would be your best educated guess?
Would greatly appreciate your direction.

Always a good question!
It smells like English leather :-). No evidence of ever being smoked in, used to haul pets nor did we find any "Baby on Board" placards. Also nice tight sunroof seals.

@QMSRI I have to ask as an interested bidder and please don't be offended, but in a single word... what does the interior smell like? (Some PTSD from a G55 that required a new interior).

We're not sure there is a need to repair the air suspension system. If the Callaway is left idle for a few days it does deflate an inch or 2 but if it's driven regularly, it's fine. And it re-inflates quickly.
There are a couple of options. One is to replace air bags with springs and the other is to replace the bags. Here are some links

The 1999 Range Rover Callaway (internal project name C11) was a limited-edition, high-performance version of the P38A Range Rover 4.6 HSE, commissioned by Land Rover North America and engineered by Callaway Cars. It was the first performance-oriented Range Rover officially offered by the brand, with only 220 units produced for the U.S. market
Key Specifications & Performance
The primary goal of the Callaway edition was to improve the performance of the standard 4.6L V8 and drivetrain
Engine: Modified 4.6L Rover V8 producing 240 hp and 285 lb-ft of torque
(a 10% increase over the standard 4.6 HSE)
.
Acceleration: It cut roughly one second off the standard 0–60 mph time, making it the fastest factory P38 available
.
Drivetrain: Features a modified transfer box with a different gear ratio (1.294:1 high), a specific torque converter, and strengthened front axle shafts
Electronics: Utilized the GEMS engine management system with custom-programmed engine, transmission, and transfer case computers
Identification & Visual Features
Callaway Range Rovers were visually distinct from standard HSE models through color-matched components and unique branding
.
Exterior Colors: Produced in only three colors: Niagara Gray, Epsom Green, and
Rutland Red
Body Details: The bumpers, front grille, and side mirrors were painted to match the body color
Badging: Includes "Callaway" badging on the front wings and tailgate, a numbered plaque on the dashboard above the stereo, and the Callaway logo on the shift knob and intake plenum
Exhaust: Introduced a dual-outlet exhaust system, which was a new feature for Range Rovers at the time
