1991 Porsche 964 Carrera 2 Targa 3.8L 5-Speed by Red Square Design
Presentation
Finished in rare Paint to Sample Apricot Beige, this 1991 Porsche 964 Carrera 2 Targa represents a carefully executed Red Square Design project that combines classic 964 character with thoughtfully selected visual and mechanical upgrades. Originally delivered new in California, the car is said to be one of approximately 746 U.S.-market 964 Targa examples produced. After being acquired in January 2025, the car was selected for a comprehensive restoration and customization by Red Square Design. The concept behind the build focused on quality of execution, attention to detail, reliability, and creating a cohesive car with a strong individual identity. As part of the build, the original matching-numbers M64 engine was professionally rebuilt and enlarged to 3.8 liters in collaboration with Tuner RS. Additional upgrades include KW suspension, custom 18-inch three-piece BBS wheels, and a fully bespoke Porsche Truffle Brown leather interior featuring Recaro seats and classic houndstooth inserts. Since completion, the car has been used as part of the Red Square Design collection as well as a show and content vehicle. It is now being offered for auction out of Florida as a fully sorted, documented, and turnkey build ready for its next owner.
The exterior was refinished in the period-correct Paint to Sample shade of Apricot Beige as part of the Red Square Design restoration. The Targa roof was fully restored, including replacement of seals, internal hardware, and mounting components, and refinished from its original black to Truffle Brown using factory-correct materials sourced from Germany to complement the color scheme. Additional exterior details include an RS-style front bumper with integrated air ducts, custom LED headlights, original Porsche taillights, drilled door handles, custom Truffle Brown brake calipers, and a European-style rear license plate setup with an accompanying U.S. plate adapter. The car rides on custom 18” BBS three-piece wheels fitted with new Michelin Pilot Sport tires measuring 215/40 R18 in front and 245/35 R18 in the rear. The seller notes the paint exhibits a deep gloss and consistent finish throughout, and panel fitment appears straight and well-aligned. Minor signs of use, such as light stone chips, may be present consistent with limited road use.
The cabin has been fully reimagined and handcrafted by Red Square Design using Porsche Truffle Brown leather upholstery. It includes custom Recaro bucket seats with embossed Porsche-style crests and houndstooth cloth inserts, along with matching inserts for the dashboard, door panels, and rear seats. The door panels have been reengineered with reinforced internal structures and redesigned armrests, while the dashboard and steering column have been fully retrimmed in leather. Contrasting Apricot Beige stitching is applied throughout. Additional details include Truffle Brown seatbelts, custom Apricot Beige instrument dials, a custom-trimmed three-spoke Renown steering wheel, drilled black anodized aluminum door pulls and pedals, a black anodized aluminum shifter, an integrated Porsche Classic Communication Management (PCCM) head unit, custom floor mats, and new brown carpeting.
The original matching-numbers M64 flat-six was fully rebuilt and upgraded to 3.8-liter specifications by TuneRS, producing approximately 300 HP. The build included replacement of internal components, proper break-in procedures, and a subsequent oil service, and is supported by a 1-year warranty from the builder. The fuel system has been comprehensively addressed with the replacement of high-pressure fuel lines and fuel pumps. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a G50 5-speed manual transmission paired with a short-shift kit for more precise gear engagement. The suspension has been upgraded to a KW coilover system, and the braking system has been comprehensively rebuilt. Detailed invoices, documentation, and photos of the work performed are available.
This sale will include two original keys, two aftermarket keys, a spare tire, a tire inflator, a car cover, build documentation, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “This vehicle is a custom-built project by Red Square Design, developed with a strong focus on quality, attention to detail, and driving experience. I am the founder and owner of Red Square Design, with over 12 years of professional experience working with Porsche at an authorized dealership prior to relocating to the United States and establishing this company. I have also been honored to be a two-time Porsche ambassador. Red Square Design is a young company, and this vehicle represents one of our first completed projects. To date, we have completed three builds, with two additional projects currently in development. This particular car is the remaining example from our initial series and is now being offered for sale. While our early projects have found homes internationally, we are now focused on establishing our presence in the U.S. market and introducing our work to a wider audience here. The car was carefully selected and purchased from Parkhaus Performance, followed by a comprehensive inspection and a full restoration and customization process. Every stage of the build is documented with invoices and detailed photo records. The engine has been professionally rebuilt and upgraded from 3.6L to 3.8L in collaboration with our partners Tuner RS, now producing approximately 300 horsepower. The original engine numbers are retained, while the internal components have been upgraded. The engine comes with a 1-year warranty and has been properly broken in and serviced. The interior is fully custom-built by Red Square Design, reflecting our specialization in high-end leather craftsmanship. It features Porsche Truffle Brown leather, custom stitching in Apricot Beige, Recaro seats, and numerous bespoke elements throughout. The vehicle is currently used as a show car and for content creation, driven occasionally on weekends. As a result, minor cosmetic wear such as small paint chips or light scratches may be present, consistent with careful use. The car is not presented as a delivery-mile example, but as a fully sorted and road-tested build. All major mechanical components have been refreshed, including suspension (KW), braking system, fuel system, and engine components. The car is fully sorted, runs excellently, and is ready for its next owner. This is a unique, turnkey build with a strong identity, built with care and attention to detail, and supported by complete documentation.”
