Dick Stephen’s’ Academy of Art collection included only the finest of Pre-War automobiles. This one is no exception. Back in 1960 my friend’s dad had an L-29 Limousine. We’d wait for him to be in bed asleep and then take the Cord out to the bars in Buffalo pretending to be Elliot Ness chasing gangsters. I’m sure this particular car was never treated quite like that. Absolutely exquisite in white.
Such a nice looking sport coupe here. If in fact this was actually painted in the original 916A Daytona Blue, the photography doesn’t do it justice. Half the photos look correct but the other half present it multiple shades lighter. One would have to see it first hand to be confident. The appraiser indicates that the engine “appears” to be original and correct. A Corvette of this stature really deserves CCAS authentication to draw really strong bidder interest, particularly given the questions raised about the window sticker. All that said, it will no doubt make someone happy if the reserve is reasonable.
