10-Years-Owned 1987 Porsche 924S 5-Speed
Presentation
Introduced in 1987 with the 944's 2.5-liter inline-four, the 924 S paired Porsche's front-engine, rear-transaxle layout with more power than the original 924. Finished in Guards Red over black cloth and leatherette and fitted with an electric sunroof, this example has been modified with a 944-sourced transaxle featuring a taller fifth gear for relaxed highway cruising, an engine-compartment strut brace, and a matte-black front air dam. The fourth owner from new has owned the car since 2016, and this 924 S is now being offered for auction in Florida showing approximately 107k miles on the odometer.
Finished in Guards Red, this 924 S retains its original paint and features pop-up headlights, an integrated rear hatch spoiler, and heated, electrically adjustable side mirrors. Modifications include a matte-black front air dam, a black vinyl wrap across the top of the rear hatch glass, and tinted windows along with a tinted windshield header. The car rides on 15" phone-dial wheels wrapped in Nexen front and Douglas rear tires, and the seller notes minor paint chips consistent with driver use as well as a paint correction performed in October 2018. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a CARFAX report noting an accident in 1991.
The interior features black cloth seat inserts with Porsche script and leatherette bolsters. Equipment includes power windows, black floor mats with colored logos, and a cassette and coin holder. The seller confirms that all gauges, electronics, and accessories are in working order, though the windshield washers are inoperative despite three replacement pumps.
Power comes from a 2.5-liter M44 inline-four factory rated at 150 HP and 142 lb-ft of torque, driving the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle. The transaxle was replaced in January 2024 with a 944 unit offering a taller fifth-gear ratio, lowering engine speed to roughly 3,100 rpm at 80 mph. An engine-compartment strut brace has also been fitted. Standard performance features include the rear-transaxle weight distribution, four-wheel disc brakes, and power-assisted steering. Recent service includes a power steering rebuild in January 2020 and replacement of the timing and balance belts, water pump, and engine mounts in April 2023 at 102,563 miles.
This sale will include a clean title, the owner's manuals, a workshop manual, a toolkit, a spare tire, an air pump, and a three-ring binder of records. The seller adds that every expenditure since their 2016 purchase has been logged in a spreadsheet totaling $15,970.
The seller would like you to know: "I've owned this 924S for over 10 years and 16,000 miles. It has always been garaged. The only reason for sale is that I've purchased a 1987 Alfa Romeo Spider and don't have garage space for both. I'll answer any and all questions promptly, and personal inspections and test drives are encouraged."
